I needed a woodworking mallet for the shop. I decided on the basic wedged mortise and tenon design. In the head of the mallet, I bore two holes and filled them with lead shot.
These holes were covered with two pieces of wood on ether side of the holes. This whole assembly was turned on the lathe to form a cylindrical mallet head. The handle was turned from the same wood. The handle has a tenon that fits into a mortise built into the head. The head and handle were glued together and then the wedges were inserted.
